Cuban Cake Recipe
Cuban Cake is a simple and easy-to-make cake recipe. Its origin is uncertain, but ancient: this original Cuban cake recipe I found in a notebook of Portuguese recipes over 30 years old and now I share it with you here at TudoReceitas!
The main characteristic of this homemade cake, which should not be confused with traditional Cuban cake, is the brown color, given by the burnt sugar or caramel that we prepare right at the start. The preparation of the cake dough can be done in a bowl or in a blender and includes grated coconut. The Cuban cake is baked in the oven for almost 1 hour, but it's worth it because it's a delicious moist brown cake just right.

Ingredients for making Cuban cake:
1 cup of wheat flour (140 grams)
½ cup of refined sugar
1 cup of hot milk (200 ml)
⅓ cup of melted butter
1 cup of grated coconut (70-80 g)
1 medium egg
1 tablespoon of baking powder
Creamy caramel sauce (optional):
½ cup of refined sugar
½ cup of fresh cream (120 ml)
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
How to make Cuban Cake:
Put the sugar in a pan, bring to medium-low heat and let it melt without stirring until it turns caramel, as in the photo.
Tip: Preheat the oven to 180ºC (medium oven).
Remove from heat and add the milk carefully as it will sneeze. Bring it back to the fire and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, until all the caramel is dissolved. Turn off and let cool until warm.
In a blender, beat the egg with the butter. Add the wheat flour, the grated coconut and the caramelized milk from the previous step and beat until it becomes a homogeneous mass. Finally add the yeast and mix lightly with a spoon.
Transfer the dough from this Cuban cake to a medium (22 cm) pan, greased and floured, and bake at 180ºC (medium oven) for 45 to 50 minutes or until you pass the toothpick test.
Tip: The cake can take up to 1 hour to bake, so keep an eye out after 45 minutes.
In the meantime, if you want, prepare a creamy caramel sauce to serve with the baked cake. To do this, melt the sugar until it is caramelized, as you did before. Add the cream and butter and stir until dissolved. Turn off the heat and set aside.
When the Cuban cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool a little before unmoulding. Serve topped with the creamy caramel sauce and it's ready to delight everyone. Bon appetit and let us know in the comments what you think!
